Details of the Practical Appraiser Training Program The Practical Appraiser Training program is an appraiser training program for those that are interested in entering the valuation profession.  This pathway to licensing is a practicum and will accumulate 1,000 experience hours for the student. Upon successful completion of this practicum, the student will be eligible to apply to the state licensing jurisdiction to take the national licensing exam.

Experience is gained through virtual learning sessions, on-site learning sessions, developing and reporting of a real property appraisal.

Set virtual meetings (approximately 10-12 hrs. weekly)

Set on-site meetings (approximately 3 times monthly)

Length of Practical Appraiser Training Program:  The length of the training program can be as follows:

  • 6 months – requires 40+ hrs. a week time commitment
  • 7 months – requires 35+ hrs. a week time commitment
  • 8 months – requires 30+ hrs. a week time commitment
Tuition: The tuition for training is individualized to the particular program you are accepted into, the length of the program, and the number of students enrolled.  A fee expectancy can be equaled to 3 or 4 semesters at a local community college.

Student will need to take 83 hrs. of Qualifying Education prior to beginning the training program:

  • Basic Appraisal Principles — 30 hrs. (clock hours)
  • Basic Appraisal Procedures — 30 hrs. (clock hours)
  • 15-Hour National USPAP Course — 15 hrs. (clock hours)
  • Supervisor/Trainee for the state — 4 hrs.
  • Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws & Regulations – 8 hrs.

Cost of this Qualifying Education is approximately $1,100 – not included with tuition for the practicum program

After completion of the training program, the student will need to take an additional 75 hrs. of Qualifying Education:

  • Residential Market Analysis & Highest and Best Use
  • Residential Appraiser Site Valuation & Cost Approach
  • Residential Sales Comparison & Income Approaches
  • Residential Report Writing & Case Studies

Cost of this Qualifying Education is approximately $1,100 – not included with tuition for the practicum program
